NaPoWriMo Day 10

through the windshield
I am the hunter

my thumb on the trigger
launching mini-rockets

at other cars
the explosions

beautiful
slow motion

then i notice
the rear view mirror

and i am the hunted
another vehicle

coming up fast
closing in

then it’s time to park
and go to work

This poem was written to yesterday’s prompt to write a hunter/hunted poem at Poetic Asides.

  1. I have been running across a few of these responses to that prompt. Have to admit, this one is very different than the others. You use something we all do, on a daily basis as your metaphor. On the one hand it is scary, on the other, quite believable and easy to relate to. The quiet, simple and peaceful ending was a twist and unexpected. Our fantasy worlds are quite interesting places,

  2. That’s it! I’m not sure the contract says you can have this much fun :-).

PS I have never thanked you [it has built over time] for showing me the two and three line per stanza structure. It was a poem of yours, whenever we ‘met’, that started me trying it. Now the three liner is one of my favourite structures and I am working on the two liner.

    • margo, thanks. I’m having fun this month. That’s part of the point. Just have fun – and get some poems written.

And thank you so much for that praise. I really appreciate it. It means a lot to me as a writer to think I’ve influenced others. I’m always getting ideas from reading others’ poetry. Your poems do that; they make me think – not just ideas, but about writing poetry.
