kismet

not into kismet-
don’t want to be told what my
lot in life will be

why do the lots need
to be divided? because
you know it’s not fair

how about a word
that means multiplying and
not dividing life?

This poem was written in response to the kismet prompt at Haiku Heights.

Process notes: I discovered, at Dictionary.com, that the word kismet comes from the Arabic qismah meaning: division, portion, lot, fate.

  1. everyone has its counterpart…even woman to man, even we have antimatter to matter…that is why…along with joys that multiply life, we also have sorrows that divide life… 🙂
